Born in Trieste, Franca Coin founded the Venice International Foundation in 1996 with the city’s then mayor, Massimo Cacciari, and was its chairman until September 2020. From 2015 to 2018 she was chairman of the Fondazione Canova in Possagno, to which she gave fresh impetus by organising exhibitions at the Bode Museum in Berlin and at the Frick Collection in New York, where Antonio Canova’s plaster cast of George Washington was exhibited. In 2012 she founded Friends of Venice Italy Inc. in New York, of which she is currently chairman. An honorary member of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere e Arti in Venice, she sits on important boards, including those of the Fondazione Masi and, by ministerial appointment, the Fondazione Magnani Rocca. Her many awards include the 2003 Firenze Donna Prize and the honorary degree in “Strategies, management and communication of cultural heritage and events” awarded in 2005 by the Iulm Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione. She has been Honorary Chairman of VIF since 2020.
