In January 2026, the Venice International Foundation renewed its partnership with the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice by funding two grants for technicians specialising in the use of 3D digital microscopes and analytical chemistry, thereby reaffirming its commitment to supporting the training of young people and the promotion of Venice’s cultural heritage. The programme, structured on an annual basis, involves activities in the field of diagnostics and advanced research aimed at understanding and restoring the city’s artistic heritage. The Hirox 3D digital microscope, funded by us – the only one of its kind in a state museum in Italy – is an advanced instrument that allows the analysis of the painted surface at extremely high magnifications, enabling restorers to carry out precise and detailed investigations of works of art. This microscope is used, in conjunction with other scientific equipment available at the Galleries’ Scientific Laboratory, to carry out increasingly comprehensive diagnostic analyses of works of art. The staff we fund make a decisive contribution to conservation and research projects on the artistic heritage through the aforementioned diagnostic technologies, gaining ever greater expertise in their use.
