Carla Bossi-Comelli was born in Italy and grew up in Argentina. After having spent thirty years in Mexico, she is now resident in Switzerland travelling between Zurich, Milan, New York and Buenos Aires. In 1967, she obtained the Bachelor Degree in Economics at the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad Nacional, completed by 2 years of Sociology at de Universidad Nacional de Filosofia y Letras of Buenos Aires, Argentina. These experiences contributed to enhance her interest in culture and Museums, her aim and interest to develop education and culture among children and young people. During her stay in Mexico she got a Postgraduate-Degree in Museology and Museography at the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico City. She has been President of World Federation of Friends of Museums, an international non-profit organization supporter of Associations and volunteers of Museums around the world since 2000 and former Secretary General since 1992, dedicating herself intensively to the development and management of this Organisation. She started the Mexican Federation of Friends of Museums, organised international congresses around the world, started and sponsored the Scholarship Programme, in the name of her late husband Luigi Bossi, in order to help young students in attending the Congresses. She organised and sponsored the publication of the book “Art Donations” in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the WFFM. Since 2009 is Honorary President of the World Federation of Friends of Museums. In 2009, Carla has been decorated by the French Government as “Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”. She has been passionate of Music since she was a child. During one of the Salzburg Easter Festival she came to know “The Manhattan School of Music”. becoming Member of the Board of Trustees, she developed the International Advisory Board of the “The Manhattan School of Music, intensifying the Scholarship Programme in order to obtain sponsorship form the different countries students came from. She has served on Manhattan School of Music’s Board of Trustees since 2003 and became Chair of the International Advisory Board in 2007. In 2021 she became Honorary Member of the Board of “The Manhattan School of Music”, New York She became Member of the International Council of the Association of Patrons of the Salzburg Easter Festival since 2014 (from the beginning), in order to ensure the continued existence of the Salzburg Easter Festival. She has been member of the International Council of the Metropolitan Opera of New York (2007). Nowadays she is also member of the Board of “Milano per la Scala”. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Manhattan School of Music in 2020 in recognition of her unfailing dedication to young musicians and her efforts to support and promote music and culture across the globe. In 2022 the Manhattan School of Music Board of Trustees named Carla Bossi-Comelli Trustee Emeritus. Her commitment in cultural non-profit organisation, has always been characterized by interest in new projects with a vision towards the future.
